« the royal family | Main | kids trunk show at the workroom! »

Argh, I miss blogging! I thought the summer would be a great time to get caught up with things, but I've been working like crazy (at Anthro, which is awesome!) but also time consuming... Someone tell me to stop whining, haha.

I have been obsessed with collecting things lately, which is bringing me too all sorts of wonderful places. I went to Ten Editions (bookstore on Spadina) again yesterday, and I was looking for something a bit special. I am getting ready for my thesis project, which is a secret for now, and I am looking for old stained/written on/interesting envelopes. I won't tell you why yet, I don't want to give a key element of my these project away! I am hugely inspired by the envelope collection of Andrew Bush, right here. So if anyone has any envelopes lying around... hint hint! Send me an email : )

So here is what I found! I spent $40 this time, for ALL this! I spent an extra $10 at the Reference Library too for the dated poetry books I tore the library pockets out of ($1 each).

Some lovely luggage tags...

A calligraphy pen practice book, with some practice already in it : )

Some weird (and kind of perverted?) Chart-pak rub on letters, so excited about these as always. But read the card that it came with, so strange! "I've been rubbing for some time..." Okay Chart-pak.

Lately all I've been buying is paper. So prepare to see more from me on this topic, haha.

oh those envelopes are so beautiful. imagine all the stories!

That's the best! I love old paper; just the look & the feel and-especially-the smell!Wow, good luck with your collection, it's gorgeous.
(By the way that 'rub card' is really creepy.)

These are all so so wonderful! I loved aged paper, and it's a huge bonus when it has a bit of a story to it, like the library slips and calligraphy book :)

*sigh*... paper is such a lovely thing :) i love old library cards and wish that libraries hadn't thrown them all away when they went digital! i actually wish libraries hadn't gone digital at all... i miss those due date cards!

What a great selection/collection of finds! [I’m jealous!] Can’t wait to see what your thesis project will be, I’m all curious now… ;)

I really love this post! You have such a great collection. I'm so jealous!

LY:

Lovely papers- great collection. The chart-pak reply card is HILARIOUS, though! For some reason that first line .. "liked what I rubbed" has me giggling.

Hi there aprile!
I have a gazillion envelopes, and their yours if you like. I only use a few, but i use a lot of letters in my collage work which of course always come in envelopes!

let me know if you would like to come get them!

What a lovely collection! Such beautiful pieces. :D

Hi Aprile,

I just saw your interview on Karyn's blog! I love your collages. I'm from Hamilton and used to work at a public library there when I was in high school. Terryberry library still exists, believe it or not. I never figured out why it's named that way, but it's a wonderful name, huh?

I also do collages from found materials and am inspired by your work. I'm excited to see your work in person on Sunday!

i looooove your blog!
i came across it on oh, French's blog and i think it is very sweet!!

swoon! love your blog.

AHHH!!!! I'm going crazy over those library pockets!

Wow! You work at Anthro(pologie)? That's awesome! I wish we had that store in Hawaii! Lucky you! When I'm in CA I can spend hours there. Their visual displays and closely curated pieces are AMAZING and everything that I love! If you work in their headquarters, even more awesome!

sara:

oh. this makes me SO nostalgic for the days when libraries didn't have public computers and you actually CHECKED OUT books and were given a date stamped card. *sigh* Lovely collection.

Michelle Feshari:

Ephemera - yum! Old paper makes me happy!
